Chat Over Chai and National Museum of the Royal Navy team have taken over the Victory Gallery for an afternoon of music, Diwali craft, artefacts and food celebrating the Hindu celebration of Light and South Asian naval history.
The gallery will be alive with the joy of Diwali. There are activities for all ages to take part in combining the traditional celebrations of creating cards, making rangoli and Diyas to morse code Diwali keyrings. The event celebrates our South Asian community and the connection to the Royal Navy.
Find out what Indian sailors would have ate as part of their rations during the World Wars. There will be a chance to try the drink Chai and hear about Chat Over Chai's work on our Tidal Teatime project.
Displays of the Community curated Chat Over Chai WRINS sari and an example of a remade actual WRINs Sari created in collaboration with Tin Trousers, the Royal Navy's Race Diversity Network and NMRN as part of their South Asian History project.
Local SEND children have been invited to take part in the celebrations as well as specially invited community groups as part of this Community take over day. Visitors on site are also able to attend, it is open to all.
There will be a special bilingual story telling and performances by local dancers.
